Venezuela is participating in the International Conference on the Safe Transport of Nuclear and Radioactive Material of the International Atomic Energy Organization (IAEA), which takes place in Vienna from Monday to March 27, with five papers approved by the organization's technical committee.

The Minister of Popular Power for Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez, reported that the delegation presents developments aimed at the control, monitoring and protection of radioactive sources used in medical, industrial and energy activities.

In this edition, Venezuela tops the list of Latin American and Caribbean countries with the highest number of selected papers, above Argentina, Brazil, Cuba and Uruguay. The works were prepared by national teams specialized in physical protection and management of radioactive materials.

Jiménez Ramírez explained that the delegation will present an automated system for reporting the movement of abandoned sealed radioactive sources, a geolocation web service for their transport and the experience of the team responsible for manufacturing overpack-type containers for FSD heads, built with Venezuelan technology.

The minister noted that these developments strengthen the country's capacity to comply with international standards and demonstrate the continuity of scientific work in the face of unilateral coercive measures.

Venezuela's participation in the IAEA consolidates its presence in technical spaces linked to nuclear safety, Jiménez said.
