With a representation of its typical culture and cuisine, Venezuela was part of the fourth edition of the Latin American and Caribbean Cultural Festival (LACFEST) 2025, which was held in Saint Lucia, after a few years of absence in the spaces of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC).
The Venezuelan delegation presented the documentary Ali Primera, a production that pays homage to the “singer of the people”. In this sense, the Venezuelan ambassador to Saint Lucia, Leiff Escalona, highlighted the importance of Primera in the contemporary history of her country and her artistic legacy as an instrument of social transformation.
“Ali Primera is one of the most important musicians in Venezuela and Latin America. His life and work stand today as a historical testimony of Venezuela that evolved from oil dependence to the awakening of popular consciousness, a movement that later inspired the Bolivarian Revolution,” he said.
He also highlighted the power of art as a means to strengthen cultural identity. “More than a biography, this film is a story about the power of art to awaken consciousness. Ali's message is still alive: songs can also be a form of resistance and hope,” he said.
In addition, a typical gastronomy workshop was held, aimed at SALCC culinary arts students in which they learned about and prepared emblematic dishes of the South American country, such as the famous Tequeños.
LACFEST 2025 is a platform for cultural exchange and cooperation that provides students and the general public with the opportunity to approach the artistic and gastronomic expressions of Latin America and the Caribbean. Not only does it celebrate cinema, but it also strengthens the bonds of friendship, learning and integration between the peoples of the region and the community of Santa Lucense.
The event was attended by Latin American ambassadors accredited to the Caribbean nation, as well as the Festival's Patroness of Honor, Dame Pearlette Louisy, governor general emeritus of Saint Lucia.
