A multi-institutional delegation from the Venezuelan State participated in an online technical workshop provided by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The main purpose of the meeting was to train public officials on the methodologies and requirements of the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), with a view to the next presentation of the country's national report to this international body.
This training day is part of the technical assistance and cooperation mechanisms that the country maintains active with the United Nations (UN) system. The initiative seeks to consolidate spaces for constructive dialogue and ratify the State's commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights, conceived as a cross-cutting axis within the legal system and the Constitution of the Republic.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Issues, Alexander Yánez Deleuze, led the opening of the event and thanked the OHCHR experts for their support.
During his speech, Yánez emphasized that the UPR is the ideal tool for evaluating the human rights situation in the world, provided that the principles of equal treatment between nations, respect for sovereignty and non-interference are strictly applied.
The representatives of the different participating public authorities and ministries worked in technical tables to coordinate the data collection mechanisms that will structure the final document. With this, Venezuela is making progress in institutional preparations to present to the international community its policies and achievements in social and legal matters, highlighting the responsiveness of its institutions in the current context.
