On behalf of the President of the
Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, the Minister of Popular Power for
Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, thanked the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran for its firm condemnation
of the continued violation of
international norms by the United States (USA), after illegally confiscating a plane from the Venezuelan State.
“We agree that the actions of the United States
jeopardize the peace and security of global aviation,” said the
Venezuelan Foreign Minister in a message posted on his social networks.
The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Naser Kanani, said
that the Persian nation “emphasizes the need to respect international laws and regulations.
By confiscating the Venezuelan president's plane, the United
States has violated international rules and regulations, since its action
was contrary to the 1994 Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation.
The Islamic Republic considers this US measure unacceptable.”
He added that “such a coercive unilateral measure taken by the
United States against other nations will create chaos, expand banditry and
endanger aviation peace and security.”
Kanani highlighted that Tehran supports the South American country to
preserve and recover its properties that belong to the Venezuelan people.
He also stressed the need to deepen international cooperation to
counter unilateral US measures and sanctions.
