The ambassador representing the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Rodulfo Pérez, warned about the risks of hate speech and disinformation campaigns against the country.

During his speech at the 224th Session of the Executive Council of the international organization, the Venezuelan diplomat warned that disinformation, hate speech and manipulation in the digital environment are “phenomena that transcend virtual space with the purpose of undermining the democratic institutions of the world's peoples.”

He noted that “these challenges are not abstract, they constitute real threats, affecting social exposure, international stability and even the sustainability of life.”

In addition, Pérez indicated that Venezuela has been the subject of a multiform aggression over the last decade, which he considered to be the “longest in contemporary history, in a context in which Venezuela has never been at war.” At the same time, he reiterated that Venezuela is “a nation, sovereign, resident and deeply committed to the principles of multilateralism.”
