The Minister of Popular Power for Productive Agriculture and Lands, Julio León Heredia, emphasized the need to adopt agrometeorology as a fundamental discipline to guarantee food sovereignty in the face of the challenges of climate change.
Faced with the phenomenon of the perpendicular passage of solar rays, which will directly impact the national territory from south to north, Minister León Heredia pointed out that traditional agricultural planning must evolve.
“Nowadays, our producers and farmers must understand that there is a discipline called agrometeorology. We can no longer plant under static dates as before; climate change forces us to constantly study and assess environmental conditions,” he explained during his participation in the program A Pulso, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV),
The head of the agrarian portfolio reported that Venezuela is preparing to face the transition between the phenomena of La Niña (excessive rainfall) and El Niño (period of drought or prolonged summer).
He indicated that for this year, the projections indicate the presence of El Niño, which is why an articulated work is being carried out with the Ministry of People's Power for Ecosocialism to present territorialized agrometeorological predictions.
As part of the prevention strategy, León Heredia announced that after Easter Week, detailed forecasts will be released for each region, allowing producers in each state to take the necessary forecasts and precisely define their planting windows to maximize yield and minimize climate risks.
