The Venezuelan boxing
delegation won a total of 12 places for the next
XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, in the
qualifying tournament held at the facilities of the CODE's
multipurpose gymnasium in Jalisco, Mexico.
A
total of 6 Venezuelan female and 6 male athletes will see action in the
same number of divisions of the 7 contests in the tournament in each row.
The
Venezuelan Omailyn Alcalá won the gold medal in the 57 kg division after beating Cuba's Magda Masso
by CSR. Mexico's Guadalupe Torres and
Salvadoran Gabriel Carcamó shared bronze.
In
the 60 kg category, Krisandy Rios won silver after falling by a
split decision (3-2) to Colombia's Camila Camilo. Broce's medals went to the Mexican Paula Hernández and
the Salvadoran Leyla Bravo.
Meanwhile,
Irismar Cardozo won the silver medal after giving up by a split decision
(3-2) to Mexico's Valeria Amparan. The third place was held by
Colombian Leydis Rivas and Panamanian Yuliett Hinestroza.
In addition,
Youly Mena won another silver medal for Venezuela in the 65 kg, after giving up
5-0 in the title fight against Mexico's Darianne Hernández. The bronze medal
was shared by Erlis Coba from Cuba and María Chiroi from Guatemala.
For
her part, Maryelis Yriza won the silver medal in the 75 kg after giving up
4-1 in the final against Mexico's Lorien Alonzo. While in the 54 kg,
Diana Maestre won the bronze medal and her ticket to the
continental competition after beating Mexico's Ariana Gil in the quarterfinals, although her
journey ended in the semifinals against the possible champion, the Colombian Yenni Arias.
In
the men's division, Diego Pereira won the silver medal in the 80 kg category after falling by
a 3-2 split decision to the Cuban Keylor García.
The Colombian Diego Motoa and the Barbadian Charles Cox completed the podium.
In the
same way, Andrés Cova (55 kg), Wilson Solórzano (60 kg) and Lisandro Tejada
(70 kg) qualified for the Santo Domingo
2026 Central American and Caribbean Games by securing third place in their respective divisions.
Finally, Wilmer Rojas in the 90 kg, although he took fifth place after falling in the quarterfinals to Colombian Jhojan Caicedo, got a ticket for the Santo Domingo 2026 games, completing the successful harvest of 12 qualifiers for Venezuela.
