The Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the Kingdom of Spain, issued this Sunday, April 19, a statement rejecting the recent offensive and racist statements issued at a public event in the city of Madrid by the singer Carlos Baute against the president in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez.

The paper notes that these expressions “constitute an unacceptable manifestation of hate speech” and condemns any form of instrumentalization of public space for the dissemination of this type of message.

In addition, it indicates that “Venezuela is a profoundly mixed nation, forged in diversity and in the encounter of indigenous, African and European roots. This condition not only defines our identity, but it constitutes one of the ethical pillars of our coexistence as a people. Any attempt to degrade, dehumanize or stigmatize from that diversity represents a direct aggression against the very essence of what is Venezuelan.”

The embassy also expressed “its sincerest apologies to the people of Spain, who know in their own history the horror of fascism and hate crimes, and to all those who may have been offended by these statements. Such words do not represent the Venezuelan people or their culture, characterized by respect, solidarity and human dignity.”

They also strongly condemned any form of instrumentalization of public space for the dissemination of messages of hate, exclusion or symbolic violence.
