Venezuelan researchers design electroscalpel for veterinary surgery

Venezuelan researchers are developing an electroscalpel designed and manufactured in the country for veterinary use to replace the import of this surgical equipment, according to the Ministry of People's Power for Science and Technology (MINCYT).

The device, promoted as part of the Cayapa Heroica National Plan, cuts with an electric arc and cauterizes the wound during surgery, reducing the risk of bleeding and simplifying procedures.

Currently, the alpha prototype is in the testing phase for veterinary use, with the purpose of validating its operation and, subsequently, adapting it to the hospital environment.

The project emerged from the work of engineers from the National Center for Development and Research in Telecommunications Foundation, who during tours of medical centers in the country dedicated themselves to reviewing and repairing equipment, which evidenced the need to build their own technology. The initiative seeks to strengthen the health sector and consolidate the country's sovereignty and technological independence.
