Venezuelan theater mourns the departure of Maestro Guillermo José “Yuma” Díaz

On the eve of the start of the Venezuelan Theater Festival 2025, the world of performing arts mourns the sensitive death of the renowned director, playwright and trainer, Guillermo José “Yuma” Díaz Mejías, who in his lifetime was a fundamental figure in the national theater and who left for eternity, leaving an indelible legacy in the country's culture.
This was announced by the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, on his Telegram channel, in which he highlighted that Díaz, winner of the National Culture Award, mention theater, 2023-2024, was a key figure in the TET Experimental Theater.
“With this group, he developed pioneering work in the exploration of new aesthetics and theatrical languages, Yuma became an indispensable reference for contemporary dramaturgy in Venezuela,” he said and emphasized that the work of the renowned playwright was distinguished by creative audacity, critical reflection and the conviction that theater is a space for encounter, transformation and collective memory.
He stated that Yuma sowed in actors, actresses and students a deep love for the stage, transmitting values of discipline, rigor and passion. “His invaluable contribution to the training of artists transcends the stage, and his mark will remain on the sensitivity of all those who shared the theatrical experience under his guidance,” he emphasized.
He indicated that the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture and the large family of cultors and artists in Venezuela extend their deepest condolences to family, friends, colleagues and disciples.
