Venezuelan woman wins Best Scientific Research Poster Award in China

The Venezuelan Oliger Verónica Mendoza Betancourt, a PhD student in Information and Communication Engineering at the Beijing University of Science and Technology (USTB), was awarded the First Prize for the Best Poster for Scientific Research, during the celebration of the Second International Academic Forum of Outstanding Students of this academic institution in the People's Republic of China.

Mendoza stood out for his research entitled: “Improving underwater optical wireless communication through MIMO-NOMA integration and the turbulence suppression strategy.” This innovative work proposes significant advances in the field of underwater communications, an area of vital importance for the exploration and development of technologies.

His research addresses a key technical challenge for improving underwater communication by combining advanced technologies such as MIMO (Multiple Inputs and Multiple Outputs) and NOMA (Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access), which could revolutionize areas such as ocean exploration, the military sector and underwater telecommunications.

Oliger Mendoza, originally from El Tinaco, Cojedes state, is the first Venezuelan to achieve this prestigious recognition, after competing against dozens of high-level students from all over the world, in one of the most important scientific events in the international academic field in China. “This award not only represents a personal achievement, but also a victory for Venezuela and for all the young people of Cojedes who dream of leaving their mark on the world,” Mendoza said upon receiving the award.

The Second International Academic Forum for Outstanding Students of the USTB was held in the Library's conference room on September 26, a lived practice that aims to establish a wide stage for most international students to showcase their achievements and exchange academic ideas and stimulate their professional dreams, in order to contribute at the same time to the promotion of high-quality development.
