A group of Venezuelans, who remained kidnapped at the Center for the Confinement of Terrorism (CECOT) in El Salvador, filed a formal complaint with the International Labor Organization (ILO) this Tuesday, September 16.

The main objective of the letter, addressed to this body, is to expose the violations of human and labor rights that were perpetrated by the governments of El Salvador and the United States.

“The purpose of this letter is to be able to denounce the United States and El Salvador, for the situations we experience as immigrant workers, and also for the mistreatment they did to us both in the United States and in El Salvador and for having violated our human rights in those two countries,” Jhon Chacín, one of the citizens rescued from CECOT, told Venezolana de Televisión.

Another rescued person, Arturo Suárez, warned that “the risk is that this type of action will be normalized, where all kinds of rights are violated to people who only cross borders to work honestly,” and consequently, he indicated the importance of competent bodies condemning these actions.

The lawyer of the law firm Angostura who accompanied them, Yuemili Velazco, reported that her person and the Venezuelans formerly imprisoned in El Salvador went to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to report the dozens of cases of children who are still kidnapped in the United States of America as a result of the deportation of their parents. He specified that the children who remain in this state amount to 60.

“Simply what we are asking for is that these children be repatriated to Venezuela with their families, with their parents, who by right are responsible for the care and custody of these children,” Velazco said.
