Venezuelans win bronze medals at the Ibero-American Mathematics Olympiad

The Venezuelan delegation won two bronze medals and two honorable mentions at the XLI Ibero-American Mathematics Olympiad (IOM 2026), held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with the participation of students from 22 countries in the region.

This was announced by the Minister of Popular Power for Science and Technology, Yván Gil, through his Telegram channel, in which he specified that the bronze medals were won by José Marquina, 17, and Luis García, 14, who achieved outstanding scores in the tests.

He also noted that Manuel Rivas, 17, and César Leal, 16, received honorable mentions after correctly solving two of the six problems raised in the competition.

“Our young people from the Scientific Seedbeds program have once again demonstrated the bright future of science in Venezuela,” said Gil, who also highlighted the level of logic and creativity demonstrated by the students in the face of an evaluation carried out over two consecutive days.

Finally, the minister stated that the results obtained by the national delegation represent a source of pride for Venezuela and recognized the efforts of the four students who participated in the competition.
