After a meeting with the managers of the country's energy industry, the Executive Vice President and Minister of the Popular Hydrocarbons Power of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, proposed the suspension of existing gas agreements with Trinidad and Tobago.
In statements broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), Rodríguez said that the proposal was raised to President Nicolás Maduro in the face of the warrior actions promoted by the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who was attached to the agenda against the Bolivarian nation by the government of the United States (USA).
“This directive, both from the Ministry and its operator PDVSA, have decided to propose to President Nicolás Maduro the immediate denounce of the Framework Agreement for Energy Cooperation between the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which was signed in 2015 with a 10-year validity automatically renewed in February of this year for 5 more years,” he explained.
Rodríguez explained that Article 3 paragraph 3 “gives the power for either party to denounce this agreement (...) a comprehensive agreement on energy cooperation, for the treatment of our joint gas fields, for infrastructure, for infrastructure, for infrastructure development, for the execution of projects in the field of hydrocarbons, for the monetization of joint resource projects that we have.”
“We are responsibly proposing to the Head of State to denounce it immediately and, as a result, to suspend all gas agreements that Venezuela maintains with Trinidad and Tobago, a sister, neighboring country, with solid historical ties between our republics, with solid ties of friendship between our peoples, but that the new Prime Minister of that country has decided to adhere to the warrior agenda of the United States to attack a sister people in the Caribbean, to attack Venezuela, to attack Colombia, to attack South America in a truly surprising way,” he criticized.
