This Friday, the Executive
Vice President of the Republic, Delcy
Rodríguez, emphasized that at 214 on April 19, 1810, “the cry for freedom is more heated
today than ever.”
“That
April 19 was the firm decision of Venezuelans for freedom and independence
(...) no one gave us independence, it was carved in the blood
of women, men and martyrs who offered their lives for the greatest thing that a country
can have, its sovereignty,” he highlighted from the Santa Rosa Chapel,
Caracas during the commemorative events of April 19, 1810.
Regarding the
renewal of licenses against Venezuela, he compared this action by the
United States to those maintained by the Spanish empire and with which, through the Guipuzkoan company, it oppressed
the country.
“The
national union is expressed in a great consensus by the rejection of Unilateral
Coercive Measures and illegitimate blockades. This is how they (
imperialism) believe that they can curb freedom, self-determination and silence
peoples who have decided to be free,” he said.
He stressed that
imperialism has had a hard time understanding the independence character of Venezuela. “
That's why they saw Chávez as indomitable and they saw him as that people that
rose up, it was the expression of our martyrs of the armed struggle (...) Chávez was the voice and expression of
the people's desire, the light of hope and today
we affirm it with force and we are not going to give it up,” he said.
On the other hand, he reiterated
that Venezuela does not recognize the International Court of Justice (ICJ) as a
mechanism to settle the territorial dispute over Guiana Essequibo.
“ That territory belongs to Venezuela and Venezuela will not rest on deploying diplomatic mechanisms to continue on the path of the Geneva Agreement,” he emphasized.
