The swordsman Victoria Guerrero won the first gold medal for Venezuela at the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay.

The Venezuelan won after beating Mexico's Ana Margarita Paredes with a resounding 15-7 victory in the final of the women's individual matches.

The Venezuelan reached the final without major problems. In the round of poules, she beat Uruguay's Agustina Cuello 5-0, Peru's María Yáñez, and 5-0 beat Puerto Rican Andrea Sofía Waller.

The only setback match was 5-4 against Costa Rica's Luna Fernández.

In the quarterfinals she scored 15-7 for the Ecuadorian María Naranjo and in the semifinals she had a rematch with Fernández, which she left on the road with another solid 13-9.
