From the National Pantheon, Admiral Ashraf Suleiman Gutierrez presided over the commemoration of the 242 anniversary of Simon Bolivar's birthday, the National Day of the Bolivarian Navy and the 202nd anniversary of the Naval Battle.
“Today we commemorate three important dates for our country, today we raised the National Flag and presented a floral offering to the remains of our father of the Fatherland, Libertador Simón Bolívar. On July 24, that boy Simon was born in Caracas, who within his expectations set the goal of freeing his country, following the ideals and advice of his teachers, swore not to give rest to his soul or rest to his arm until he broke the chains that maintained Spanish rule over the territory Venezuelan,” said Admiral Suleiman Gutierrez.
The admiral noted that the Bolivarian National Navy protects the country's rivers and coastline, which covers more than 710,000 square kilometers. “Faced with the pretensions of international actors seeking to appropriate historic national and water spaces, our naval force is active and committed to defending its sovereignty,” he said.
During the ceremony, the wreath was presented by Suleimán Gutiérrez together with M/G Rubén Bezares Escobar and Admiral Víctor Borjas, who accompanied the activity on behalf of the Strategic Operational Command.
The commemorative event was attended by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Anabel Pereira, who presented the national standard for its raising. Also present were the heads of Foreign Trade, Tourism, Sports and Prison Services: Coromoto Godoy, Leticia Gómez, Franklin Carrillo and Julio García.
