Woman sentenced to 10 years in prison for cocaine trafficking in Táchira

A woman was sentenced by the 1st Trial Court of the State of Táchira to serve 10 years in prison, after assuming responsibility for trafficking 1 kilo 35 grams of cocaine.
According to a press release from the Public Ministry (MP), the citizen was apprehended in December 2023 by officials of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) at the “Portal La Restauradora” Citizen Service Point; located in the Vega de Aza Toll, belonging to the Torbes municipality of the state of Táchira.
According to the investigation, during that date, GNB security officers ordered the arrest of a public transport unit in the direction of San Cristóbal-Barinas to inspect the vehicle; passengers and their luggage.
As they boarded the bus, they noticed the nervous attitude and signs of nervousness shown by Montilla Álvarez. Under these circumstances, he was asked to get off the bus for a more thorough inspection in the presence of three witnesses.
In this regard, a handbag owned by Montilla Álvarez was searched; and inside were found a cell phone; a ticket, a container of moisturizing cream inside which they found 50 wrappers of cocaine. In the same way, a shampoo container was discovered with 44 other wrappers inside. In turn, another plastic container was found with six other thimbles; for a total of 100 with a net weight of one kilo and 35 grams.
Once the defendant's admission of facts was heard, the 1st Trial Court in that jurisdiction handed down the above-mentioned conviction against the defendant and fixed her detention in Detachment 215 of the GNB, located in Vega de Aza.
