The Sectorial Vice Presidency for Public Works and Services deployed a technical commission in Cumaná, Sucre state, to oversee the second phase of rehabilitation of the Guamacán Tunnel of the Turimiquire System. The inspection was led by the Minister of Popular Power for Public Works, Juan José Ramírez, together with the Minister of Water Care, Carlos Mast Yustiz and Governor Jhoanna Carrillo.

“We completed the installation of 1 km of lighting and the forced ventilation system, ensuring optimal oxygen levels in the confined area; within a few hours we will receive specialized dumper equipment to speed up the extraction of sediment inside the gallery and we have activated 24-hour shifts with a higher density of personnel and machinery to remove the final obstruction,” said Juan José Ramírez.

In this regard, Ramírez highlighted the support of the Scientific Council, which allows the application of tunnel engineering techniques that reduce execution times. This effort has been joined by the Ministries of Transportation and Mines with heavy machinery to clear the obstruction affecting the water supply.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Water Care, Mast Yustiz, reiterated that the new machines have the capacity to enter the tunnels to remove debris and start supplying water to Cumaná, a service that is supported by eight work fronts to complement the water system.

In addition, Governor Jhoanna Carillo assured that the water distribution plan has been maintained for the duration of the work. In addition, he specified that to date 16 communes are supplied with water through pipes and that the Task Force, in which institutions have joined, has allowed the distribution of vital liquid through tanks to provide a permanent response to the population.
