World Data Organization founded in China to “boost the digital economy”

The President of China, Xi Jinping, celebrated the founding of the World Data Organization (WMO), born “with the mission of bridging the digital divide in data, unlocking the value of data and boosting the digital economy”.

“The world is rapidly moving towards the era of intelligence, and the role of data as fundamental resources and a driver of innovation is increasingly evident,” said the Chinese president, quoted by the Xinhua agency.

He stressed that the WMO “constitutes a valuable platform for deepening international cooperation on data and improving global data governance,” while stressing that China will uphold the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, and will support the Organization in fulfilling its role.

In addition, he stressed that the Asian nation will work with all parties to forge consensus on data governance standards; promote innovation in digital and intelligent technologies; facilitate the safe and orderly flow of data, as well as its efficient development and use; serve the healthy development of the global digital economy, and ensure that data dividends better benefit people in all countries.

The opening assembly of the World Trade Organization was held under the slogan Building together a platform for data cooperation and sharing the opportunities of digital development.

Members of the organization include companies, universities, think tanks, international organizations, financial institutions and other entities in the global data industry.
