In commemoration of National Salsa Day on October 5, the Institute of Culture of the State of Yaracuy (ICEY) and the State Cabinet of Culture have organized a series of activities framed in the “Community Salsa Route”, an initiative announced by the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, to pay homage to this musical genre.
During this month, talks, concerts and film forums will be held, with the support of the Corazón Salsero National Movement.
The celebration began this Saturday at the Carmelo Fernández Museum, where the renowned musician Luis Reyes, honorary teacher of the National Experimental University of the Arts (UNEARTE), narrated the history of Venezuelan salsa.
Later, the Yaracuy es Salsa orchestra gave a concert in the museum's central courtyard.
In addition, the premiere of a series of documentaries and film forums about the pioneers of Latin American and Caribbean rhythms, featuring figures such as Federico Betancourt and Jhonny Pacheco, is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8, at 2:00 p.m.
The Afro-Venezuelan Cultural Movement scheduled a day of Poetry in Salsa for Sunday, October 13, in homage to Héctor Yusti, Efraín Guzmán and Humberto Graterol. This activity will take place at 2:00pm in the community of Taria and will feature the special participation of Abraham Rangel.
For this reason, the entity's sole cultural authority, Epifanio Ochoa, extended the invitation to the entire community and especially to salsa lovers to join the celebration with their groups, dances and songs.
“This celebration is possible thanks to a proposal made in 2024 by the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture, with the objective of honoring the birth of the announcer Phidias Danilo Escalona,” he said, a Venezuelan Television review.
