The Venezuelan Yorgelis Salazar secured the title of Grand Winner of the World Karate 1 Premier League for the third time and finished with a silver medal in the last stop of the circuit held in Rabat.
The Venezuelan arrived in Morocco with a 90-point disadvantage compared to the Algerian Cylia Ouikene, but advanced from Pool 8 after beating Germany's Alexandra Wolf 4-3 and then beating Rayane Sekkour 9-0 to qualify for the round of 16. The elimination of Ouikene in the next round left Salazar with 2,820 points and the title mathematically assured.
Salazar stressed that this achievement represents the work done after his anterior cruciate ligament surgery and the support of his team, his federation and national sports institutions, according to a press release from the Ministry of Sport.
In the final in Rabat, she fell 1-0 to Japan's Aika Okazaki and won silver in this last round of the year, after winning gold in Rome and repeating her victory in China during the season.
The athlete thus closed a competitive cycle marked by her return to international competitions and remains at the top of the world ranking of her division.
