The Ministry of Popular Power for Sports together with the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (VOC) announced the list of athletes nominated to wear the national tricolor in the upcoming South American Youth Games, which will be held from April 12 to 25 in Panama.
People who wish to participate in the selection process can do so by logging into the Instagram account of the Ministry of People's Power for Sports or the COV).
This time you can choose between 6 athletes, divided into 3 men's and the same number for the women's category.
The candidates to wear the national tricolor are: the Olympic wrestler Asia Sánchez, the current national under-17 champion and a Pan-American bronze in Brazil that supports her projection. The tennis player Dakota Ferrer, who has just won golds in Asunción, Turkey and Paraguay, and the boxer Grenyelis García (Boxing), who was recently silver in the 2026 National Championship.
On the gentlemen's side, the candidates are: the swimmer Dennis Pérez, gold in 100 meters freestyle and a 4×100 meter freestyle relay in the 2025 Bolivarian Games, the Greco-Roman wrestler, Haniel Rodríguez, gold in the Bolivarian Youth Games in Sucre, Bolivia 2024 and bronze medal in the Pan-American Under-17 Championship in Rio Janeiro, Brazil 2025, and the boxer Wilmerson González, silver in the Central American Schools of Colombia.
The national flag bearer is an honor reserved for those athletes who demonstrate talent, leadership, discipline and a record of international achievements that make the country proud.
In the last edition of the South American youth joust, which took place in Rosario, Argentina 2024, the honor went to the Pan-American champion in Asunción 2025 and world multi-medalist in weightlifting, Kerly Montilla, together with the swimmer and triple medalist in the 2025 Bolivarian Games, Emil Pérez.
