During his speech at the International Conference “Colonialism, Neoliberalism and the Territorial Dispossession of Western Imperialism”, the Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, denounced that there are new forms of neocolonialism that threaten the sovereignty of the Peoples of the region.

“The Caribbean is once again being threatened by neocolonialist actions that seek to impose schemes of domination and territorial dispossession,” said Gil, highlighting the role of Venezuela in defending the self-determination of sovereignty under the leadership of President Nicolás Maduro.

The foreign minister emphasized that the consequences of colonialism persist in the 21st century, now reinforced by neoliberal mechanisms that seek to consolidate new forms of oppression. “We are faced with a complex landscape that requires the unity of all progressive, revolutionary and sovereign forces to definitively overcome the traces of imperialism,” he said.

In this context, he addressed a special greeting to the Puerto Rican delegation, reaffirming Venezuela's support for its independence cause. “Independent Puerto Rico, sovereign Puerto Rico, will sooner or later consolidate its path to freedom and will cease to be a colony,” he said.

Gil also addressed the situation in the Malvinas Islands, reaffirming his support for the Argentine people in their historic struggle for the recovery of the territory. “Unfortunately, today we see a government that kneels before colonial power and surrenders what it fought so hard to defend and recover in the name of national independence,” he denounced.

In his speech, the minister recalled the thinking of Simón Bolívar and the origins of the anti-colonial struggle in Latin America, recalling that already in the 19th century colonialism was recognized as the source of the greatest misery in the region. “Bolivar taught us that the only alternative for our peoples is independence, sovereignty and the construction of our own cultural identity as a way to free ourselves from imperial pressure,” he said.

From the Yellow House, headquarters of the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gil concluded his speech by reaffirming the commitment of the Bolivarian Revolution to the cause of free peoples.
