50,000 people were evacuated by forest fire in Türkiye

In Bilecik and Izmir, at least 200 buildings were affected by the advance of the fire, according to initial estimates

A total of 50,000 citizens were mobilized to safe areas in three regions of eastern and southern Türkiye, following the fires in forest areas, as announced by the head of the Interior, Ali Yerlikaya.

The affected regions are Izmir, Bilecik and Hatay. Yerlikaya released the information through his account on the social network X.

In Bilecik and Izmir, at least 200 buildings were affected by the advance of the fire, according to initial estimates.

As a support measure, the Emergency Management Authority (AFAD, for its Turkish acronym) approved the allocation of 30 million liras, equivalent to about 750,000 dollars, to local officials in Izmir and Bilecik.

For his part, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Yumakli, indicated that more than 260 similar events were reported between Saturday and Monday, of which four were still active: two in Izmir, one in Manisa and one in Hatay.

According to what was published on the Sputnik website, control tasks in Izmir involve more than 1 thousand people, as well as air assets, including four aircraft and 14 helicopters.

The head of Justice, Yilmaz Tunc, reported that 17 individuals were arrested for alleged connection to the fires.
