A total of 600 Venezuelan wristbands and wristbands gathered in different Bolivar squares in the country to commemorate the National Day of Rag Wristbands, a day that combined the artisanal exhibition with a call for peace, the invocation of the creative powers of the people and the demand for the release of the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro and the First Lady, Cilia Flores.

The activity, which is held every year in honor of the artisan and popular educator Zobeyda Jiménez, brought together creators from all over the country and allowed the exhibition of more than 2,000 pieces made with traditional techniques.

In Caracas, the central event included honors to the Liberator Simon Bolivar, the reading of the Manifesto of the Rag Dolls, the collective naming of these creations and the inauguration of the exhibition Threads and Scraps of Love and Hope. The day was led by the poet Joel Linares and was attended by cultural and educational authorities.

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Karen Millán, highlighted the symbolic and political nature of rag wristbands. “Love is the fundamental element for peace. The work of these creative hands is a political act of resistance and affirmation of life in the face of hate,” he said.

For her part, the rector of the Simón Rodríguez National Experimental University (UNESR), Alejandrina Reyes, highlighted Zobeyda Jiménez's “sentient” legacy as an educator and popular craftswoman, a reference for a critical and liberating pedagogy.

The event was also accompanied by musical performances by Ali Alejandro Primera, Oswaldo Mousett, Ana Cecilia Loyo and Berenice del Moral, who offered a repertoire that linked cultural tradition and social reflection.
