A total of 42 forest fires have been controlled in Caracas and Miranda

The Deputy Minister for Risk Management and Civil Protection, Carlos Pérez Ampued a, reported that between Monday, April 8 and Friday, April 12, 2024, there were 42 forest fires in Caracas and Miranda state, which have been fully controlled, so he asserted that there are no active sources of heat affecting the vegetation of the Capital region.
The National Director of Civil Protection and Disaster Management, stressed that so far this dry season, 3,066 fires have been registered in the nation; of which 1,992 have been vegetation fires, while he clarified that of this figure, 1,074 of them were treated during their incipient phase.
In this regard, he asserted that the spread of these 1,074 vegetation fires could be prevented thanks to the timely information provided to the relevant authorities and preventive recommendations that citizens complied with to protect the environment.
The Major General indicated that four forest fires detected on the edge of the Macarao National Park in Caracas were treated recently, while fortunately there are no active vegetation fires in the Waraira Repano Park in the Capital Region nor in the Henri Pittier Park in the city of Maracay.
However, Pérez Amhighlighted that an active forest fire is being treated in San Esteban Park located between the municipalities of Guacara, Naguanagua, Puerto Cabello and San Diego in the state of Carabobo, which is 80% under control, while another vegetation accident is also being treated in the state of Lara and another forest event in Barinas.
He added that more than 20,000 men and women from citizen security bodies, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), Civil Protection and volunteering collaborate through Unified Commands to combat forest fires.
Pérez Am, also Deputy Minister of Risk Management, commented that out of the above-mentioned number of civil servants of the National Risk Management System (SNGR), more than 5,800 volunteers were activated to support efforts to put down forest fires in the country.
