The Bolivarian Agency for Space Activities (ABAE) held the conference called “Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Space Projects”, in order to address the technological opportunities and challenges presented by this tool in the country's space sector.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the activity was carried out at the Earth Satellite Control Station, located at the Captain Manuel Ríos Aerospace Base, in the state of Guárico and was led by engineer José Luis Porras, a specialist in satellite projects, who provided a detailed view of the current use of AI in the space field and its development prospects future.
During his speech, Porras highlighted the importance of this technology for the advancement of space missions and the creation of new technological solutions, and emphasized that AI has the potential to transform the space industry through the development of advanced technologies and the optimization of engineering processes.
He also referred to leading companies in the space industry, which have successfully integrated AI into their operating systems, which has allowed greater operational autonomy and efficiency in their projects.
On the other hand, Porras pointed out that the human factor will continue to be key in space operations and stated that, although Artificial Intelligence will play an increasingly leading role in space devices such as satellites and rockets, the people in charge of these projects will continue to be decisive in ensuring their success.
“That is what needs to be prepared for that future that is going to be much more automatic, but which the human being must continue to dominate,” he emphasized, referring to the need to maintain human control and supervision in automated operations.
