This Thursday, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP) welcomed with great satisfaction the return last Wednesday to Venezuela of the girl Maikelys Espinoza who was separated from her parents in the United States (USA).

Here is the full statement:

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP) applauds with great satisfaction the return to Venezuela of the girl Maikelys Espinoza, after being illegally separated from her family for months by U.S. immigration authorities and having been prevented from accompanying her mother on the repatriation flight to Venezuela 3 weeks ago.

The unjustified action, violating the fundamental rights of the girl child, was intended to be based on a series of falsehoods and calumnies against Maikelys's parents, contrary to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, international agreements for the protection of children and adolescents and due process.

The Bolivarian Alliance applauds and congratulates the Venezuelan government and President Nicolás Maduro for all the efforts made to bring the girl back to her family and accompanies the Venezuelan people in their demand for the release of 253 young Venezuelans kidnapped by the United States in a maximum-security prison in El Salvador, under false accusations, without having committed any crime in that country, without judicial process, or right to defense, among whom is Maiker Espinoza, Maikelys's father.

The ALBA-TCP requires respect for all human beings “regardless of race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, economic position, birth or any other condition” and urges the international community to repudiate and denounce the excessive and inhumane abuses of the U.S. government against migrant populations.
