Faced with isolated and irresponsible complaints through social networks that seek to confuse the population and make them believe that the authorities “do not allow doctors, volunteers or aid to the areas affected by the double earthquake of June 24, it is necessary to put the facts on the table.
There was no order that sought to prevent the aid. The measure applied, at certain times, responded to a specific situation: the enormous number of vehicles descending towards La Guaira was collapsing the roads. Allowing indiscriminate entry would have blocked the necessary access for ambulances, rescuers, medical personnel, forensic vehicles and equipment with urgent tasks.
The authorities' intention was not to block the way for anyone who wanted to collaborate. It was exactly the opposite: clearing roads, organizing entry and ensuring that aid could effectively reach those who really needed it.
Without a doubt, we all agree that those who came voluntarily deserve respect and recognition for their solidarity. But an emergency of this magnitude cannot be handled with hundreds of private vehicles entering at the same time, without coordination or operational assignment. Goodwill is indispensable, but it must be integrated into an organized plan that saves lives and does not congest critical roads.
For this reason, temporary controls, detours and progressive traffic openings were applied. In this way, the flow was stopped at times, the most congested areas were allowed to vent and then access was resumed. That is why, later, people were able to enter in a regulated manner.
The reason is elementary: a person rescued alive, in a delicate condition and in need of urgent transportation, cannot be caught in a queue caused by disorder. An ambulance cannot waste decisive minutes because the roads are saturated. A specialized team cannot do its job if it has to make its way between traffic and uncoordinated presence.
Presenting an organizational measure as if it were a ban on aid is a manipulation that does not contribute anything to the emergency.
In a tragedy, helping also means respecting protocols, following the instructions of the deployed teams and understanding that access must be prioritized to those who carry out rescue, evacuation, medical care and recovery tasks in an orderly manner.
Regulating income is not denying solidarity. It's about protecting it, making it useful and ensuring that every resource arrives on time.
