On October 18, 1965, the revolutionary Alberto Lovera was arrested by the extinct DIGEPOL and murdered under torture.

At approximately 6 in the afternoon of that day, Lovera was arrested in front of the Plaza de Las Tres Gracias by DIGEPOL officials, and transferred to that police facility in Los Chaguaramos, Caracas, where he was seen by other prisoners. Once dead, the armed band of Democratic Action (AD) tried to dispose of the body by taking it to several military installations, including the San Carlos Barracks and the Cachipo Camp, where it was rejected. In the end, the gang decided to throw him into the sea on the beaches of Anzoátegui, where he was located by a fisherman on October 27 of the same year. The corpse had its arms and legs shackled and a brickwork beak tied around its neck.

The information that led to the arrest and death of Lovera was provided by the whistleblower Aníbal González, a policeman who infiltrated the ranks of the PCV. Months later, he died at the hands of DIGEPOL agents to shut his mouth. The investigations that made it possible to discover the most horrible crime committed during the AD governments were due to the tireless work of his widow María del Mar de Lovera and to the courageous complaints of the then deputy José Vicente Rangel.
