On Saturday, March 07, the fifth season of the Professional Basketball Super League (SPB) will begin with the participation of 13 teams, with a new format that promises a close season, as announced by the president of the SPB, Giuseppe Palmisano, during a meeting with the media, sponsors and team leaders,
Palmisano was responsible for making official the modification of the competition format as a result of the reduction of teams from 14 to 13, after the Frontinos del Táchira team was unable to participate, according to the SPB website.
He explained that it will be played under the modality of the first phase of the postseason, in which the direct confrontation (1st vs 8th; 2nd vs 7th; 3rd vs 6th; 4th vs 5th) is maintained for the best of seven games. “The best four of that stage will also be measured in the semifinals against the best of seven games and the two winners will be those who compete in the Finals, who will be decided in the same way the winner of four challenges in a maximum of 7 matches,” said Palmisano.
Palmisano, was accompanied by Juan Carlos Cuenca and Alinson Chacón, first and second vice-president of the SPB, respectively.
Cuenca announced that this year the first edition of the SPB Cup will also be held, which will be a tournament that will be played within the same regular round, with the peculiarity that only 12 matches of the same will count to determine who will play the final game, whose rivals will be the two who manage to collect the most points (2 for each victory) in those dozen games randomly selected by the Technical Commission of the SPB.
“The league is rearranging the schedule and reorganizing logistics to ensure the smooth running of the show,” he also highlighted the existence of the SPB Disciplinary and Dispute Resolution Court, to ensure the rights of all those who live in the league.
For its part, the Venezuelan Basketball Federation, through Javier Izquiel, director of National Teams, presented the Women's Super League campaign that will begin on Saturday, March 8 with the participation of 8 organizations.
In the same way, Izquiel made official the ball of the Peak brand, of which the FVB ambassador is, as the official one for the 2026 SPB academic year.
