During the regular session of this Tuesday, February 03, the National Assembly (AN) unanimously approved an agreement to commemorate the 231st anniversary of the birth of the Grand Marshal of Ayacucho, Antonio José de Sucre, reaffirming the Parliament's commitment to historical memory and the sovereignty of the country.

The presentation of the project was given by the deputy Joan Contreras, who highlighted the validity of the humanistic thinking of the Cumanés hero in the face of the current aggressions against the nation.

Contreras emphasized that “on February 3, 1795, Antonio José de Sucre was born in Cumaná, whose life represented the perfect synthesis between unwavering loyalty to El Libertador Simón Bolívar and a strategic capacity that places him as one of the most brilliant soldiers in universal history.”

In his speech, the parliamentarian emphasized that, under the strategic guidance of Bolívar, Sucre consolidated the continent's freedom on the peaks of the Andes, to achieve definitive glory in the Battle of Ayacucho in 1824, a feat where his military genius and tactical expertise were unparalleled, given that he not only destroyed the last bastion of the colonial empire in South America, but he enshrined it as the redeemer of the children of the sun and architect of the sovereignty of the American Peoples.

He exalted that his humanist thinking transcended the battlefield when he was the main drafter of the Treaty of Armistice and the Regularization of the War in 1820.

Contreras reported that the Grand Marshal of Ayacucho understood politics as a service for liberation or for domination, always choosing to coexist with politics for the liberation of peoples.

He also emphasized that Sucre established a strong contrast between the Bolivarian doctrine and the Monroe doctrine.
