The National Assembly (AN), in its regular session this Thursday, approved in its first discussion the Amnesty Bill for Democratic Coexistence, which was proposed by the President in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez.
The above-mentioned legal instrument was presented by the deputy Jorge Arreaza, who stressed that the fundamental pillars of this legal instrument are freedom, justice, political pluralism and human rights.
In this regard, he stressed that this law will not cover, in accordance with the provisions of article 29 of our Constitution, those who have committed serious violations of human rights, crimes against humanity, corruption, drug trafficking and intentional homicides.
“This law seeks to consolidate what our constitution requires in its fundamental principles, the democratic, social, rule of law and justice state. It does not require special derogations, rather its transcendence is human, social, political and can be one of the main contributions we make to the very existence of the Republic, consolidation of our sovereignty and the right of Venezuelans to live in peace,” he said.
He also demanded that this legal instrument not be used to “feed hidden agendas, meanness”. He also called for not confusing this initiative with “impunity and carte blanche”
“We must have wisdom and awareness of the political moment that the people demand and demand of us to assume at this time,” he emphasized.
For his part, the first vice-president of the AN, deputy Pedro Infante, highlighted the importance of this legal instrument to guarantee peace in the country. “95% of Venezuelans don't want political confrontation, they don't want bombing, violence, they don't want more hate,” he stressed.
Infante urged the different political actors in the country to listen to that vast majority of the Venezuelan people who are committed to peace in the country.
“This 95% assumes values such as coexistence, they want stability, they want a guarantee of peace for themselves and future generations. They also raise the need for recognition and the value of work to rediscover prosperity,” he said.
