The National Assembly (AN) approved, by qualified majority, in the first discussion, the Draft Organic Law on Mines, whose objective is to promote national and international investment in the country's mining sector.
At the regular session held at the Federal Legislative Palace, the president of the Standing Committee on Energy and Petroleum, Deputy Orlando Camacho, when presenting the explanatory memorandum to the bill, specified that the bill consists of 19 chapters, 126 articles, three transitory provisions, two derogatory provisions and a final provision.
He indicated that the reform provides for the creation of a social mining fund, so that it establishes regulations on income and functions, so that the social security of workers in the sector can be developed and protected.
The parliamentarian highlighted the creation of a mining database, to know what the country's geological, geophysical and geoscientific information is.
On the other hand, the legal instrument provides for the creation of the Superintendency of Mining Activity, as a regulatory entity for the sector. “It is intended that this law can help to increase all legal guarantees that generate trust to attract investment,” he explained.
