This Monday, the public consultation process began on the Organic Bill for the Partial Reform of the Organic Law on the Electric System and Service, an initiative aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the system and promoting the modernization of the service in the country.

This proposal, approved on June 2, in the first discussion by the National Assembly (AN), includes 42 articles (31 articles to reform and 11 new ones proposed), which seek to strengthen the electrical infrastructure in the territory, in addition to improving the protection of the electrical system, with the participation of joint ventures that contribute to modernizing the facilities and equipment that make up the National Electricity System (SEN).

The debate, held in the auditorium of the Ministerial Tower, located in San Bernardino in Caracas, was attended by the first vice-president of the National Assembly (AN), Pedro Infante; the president of the Permanent Committee on Administration and Services of the AN, Pedro Carreño; the sectorial vice-president of Public Works and Services (VSOPS), Juan José Ramírez; the Minister of Popular Power for Electric Energy, Rolando Alcalá; the president of the National Electric Corporation (CORPOELEC), José Luis Betancourt; workers in the sector electricity, representatives of the Technical Energy Boards (MTE), and the business sector, among other guests.

During his speech, the holder of the Electric Energy portfolio recalled that sanctions have had a negative impact on the country's electricity system, however, he highlighted the high commitment of the working class to overcome the conjunctural situation in the sector.

He also explained that the reform seeks to give way to a mixed and responsible system aimed at the development of the country's different economic sectors, where operational and technical protocols respond to the needs of Venezuelans.

For his part, the sector vice-president, Juan José Ramírez, stressed that this debate “is the first step towards the modernization needed by the electricity sector in the country (...) promoted by the president in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez”.

He also highlighted “the great battle” that the Venezuelan people have fought in the face of the imposition of unilateral coercive measures, and this partial reform proposal is part of “that set of actions to strengthen the electricity system”, with the participation of the working class, through a strategic plan designed to strengthen electrical infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the first vice-president of the AN, Pedro Infante, recognized the effort and commitment of the working class of the SEN, “because you have worked hard in these difficult years to maintain our National Electricity System, so that energy reaches our people in the midst of super complex circumstances, blockades, sanctions and unilateral coercive measures.”

Likewise, according to a press release from CORPOELEC, he pointed out the importance of this Law for the economic and industrial sector, “because for the country to continue its recovery it needs electricity (...). The difficulty we have in electrical matters is a reality, a reality that is assumed,” he said.
