With the firm objective of protecting agri-food security and protecting the economy of farm workers, the president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, announced that the parliament will begin a process of debate to reform legislation against cattle theft.

During a meeting with the agricultural producing communes in Achaguas, in the state of Apure, in the context of the National Pilgrimage for a Venezuela free of sanctions, Rodríguez explained that they are going to work in the National Assembly to achieve a reform of the law, which predates the constitution of 99, so that anyone who participates in the theft of cattle can truly be controlled, prevented and punished.

“We have to address the issue of cattle theft, find ways to take care of the country and protect producers, because they often steal someone who has a cow tied to a stick,” Rodríguez emphasized.

Rodríguez praised the strategic value of the Apure state in national food sovereignty, recalling that the entity currently positions itself as the first buffalo producer in all of Venezuela and the second in the production of cattle.

He also argued that the pilgrimage is carried out with the purpose of listening first hand to the needs of the people in order to transform them into concrete solutions. “This pilgrimage is not just to stop by, but to pass by and that things really impact, improve and that you feel that this meeting was worth it,” he said.

During his speech, the president of the National Assembly paid tribute to the resilience of the people of Apurea in the face of difficulties.

“No one is going to come here to tell you the story; you were the ones who endured, resisted and conquered. Now what is coming is that we can finally end the sanctions; it is prosperity that we have to build for our sons and daughters, that is the full life,” he said.
