During the 34th Arab League Summit, held in Baghdad, Iraq, the creation of the Arab Solidarity Fund, aimed at the reconstruction of Gaza and Lebanon, was announced. The initiative, led by Arab heads of state, foreign ministers and representatives, seeks to support the recovery of territories affected by conflicts.

The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani, reported that the country will be the first to contribute to the initiative and provides 20 million dollars for the reconstruction of Gaza and another 20 million dollars for Lebanon. “This fund is a strategy to support Arab nations that have faced crises and wars, being the first of 18 initiatives aimed at strengthening joint work,” said Al-Sudani.

In addition to the reconstruction fund, the launch of the Pact for Arab Economic Reform, a program designed to establish economic and development strategies in the region for the next decade, was announced. This effort is in addition to the commitments made at the Emergency Summit held in Egypt two months ago, where proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza were presented.

Arab leaders also addressed the Palestinian situation and rejected any attempt at ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip. In the final statement, the need to ensure safe humanitarian corridors for the entry of aid was emphasized and an immediate ceasefire was called for. “The international community must assume its responsibility and stop the bloodshed,” the representatives urged.

Support for Lebanon's sovereignty was another of the central themes of the summit, where the country's right to defend itself against external aggression was reaffirmed. The Israeli occupation of five points in the south of Lebanese territory was denounced, highlighting the urgency of preserving the stability and security of the nation.

Faced with the region's geopolitical challenges, during the meeting, a call was made for unity to face threats and strengthen cooperation. “Regional security depends on Arab solidarity, respect for sovereignty and the elimination of external interference,” the leaders emphasized in their statement.

With these resolutions, the Arab League reinforces its role in the defense of Arab peoples, to promote structural solutions for reconstruction and the protection of the rights of its citizens.
