In Argentina, the government of Javier Milei formally began the process of privatizing four of the country's main hydroelectric dams: Alicurá, El Chocón, Cerros Colorados and Piedra del Águila.

The measure was made official by Decree 564/2025, published in the Official Gazette, which establishes the conditions for the sale of the shares of the companies that manage these complexes.

According to the decree, the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Economy are instructed to transfer the shares of these companies and to launch a national and international public tender for sale within 60 days.

The concession companies (Orazul Energy, Enel, AES Argentina and Central Puerto) will be able to continue operating the complexes until that date or until the sale is finalized, whichever comes first.
