The National Secretariat for Disability of Argentina applied an increase of just 2.6% to basic benefits for people with disabilities corresponding to May 2026. The measure, dictated under the logic of fiscal adjustment of the neoliberal government of Javier Milei, takes as its only reference the change in the Consumer Price Index in April, completely ignoring the current legal framework and the urgent demands of civil organizations in the sector.
With this decision, the Executive directly violates the Disability Emergency Law (27,793) enacted by the National Congress, which obliges the State to guarantee an extraordinary update in the face of the accumulated inflationary backlog. Various groups of families and providers reported that this percentage deepens the loss of the purchasing power of users, leaving coverage amounts well below the real costs of treatments, therapies and essential drugs.
This new cut aligns with the current administration's neoliberal economic policy, characterized by the dismantling of social assistance funds and the reduction of public subsidies under the argument of zero deficit.
The sector is currently on alert, warning that budgetary suffocation puts at immediate risk the continuity of medical care and basic transportation and rehabilitation services for thousands of vulnerable people across the country.
