The General Confederation of Labor (CGT), the most important labor federation in Argentina, called this Thursday, April 11, for a second general strike against the adjustment policies of the Javier Milei government, reported the Russia Today website.

He points out that 24 hours after having held a meeting with Executive officials in the Casa Rosada, the CGT, which brings together the country's main unions, called for a new strike of activities for next May 9th.

The measure was decided during the meeting of the Board of Directors, at which it was also decided to hold a march on Wednesday, May 1, Workers' Day; and to accompany the university mobilization of April 23, the CGT said in a statement.

On Wednesday, the Argentine Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Francos, led a meeting with leaders of the Confederation at the Casa Rosada, the seat of the government in Buenos Aires, with the intention of discouraging the strike that the unions were already evaluating.

As stated at a press conference by the leader of the CGT, Héctor Daer, after the meeting held with the minister, the union authorities were “hoping that some processes would be resolved positively”.

In addition, he pointed out that the drop in inflation observed in these months “is the result of the recessive effect” derived from the loss of the purchasing power of salaries.

Several sectors of the labor union were pressing to protest against wage delays in the face of inflation, and the government's refusal to approve joint agreements between some unions and companies. Others, more dialoguistic, proposed waiting for a response from the Casa Rosada, La Nación reported.

He specifies that the triumvirate that heads the labor union, made up of the co-secretaries general Daer (Health), Carlos Acuña (Service Stations) and Pablo Moyano (Truckers), defined going on strike.
