The Minister of Security of Argentina, Patricia Bullrich, presented a series of repressive measures for the maintenance of public order that prevent the blocking of streets or roads and bridges by demonstrators.
With this device, the minister said, they will prevent citizens from the interior from coming to the city of Buenos Aires to protest. “We will act until circulation is freed (...) If they take to the streets, there will be consequences: we are going to tidy up the country so that people can live in peace,” he said.
He added that the government will pass the bill for what security operations cost to social organizations and a protocol will be established to protect federal forces in the line of duty.
A register will also be created of the organizations that participate in this type of event and that are systematically the ones that act as spokespersons for this type of demonstration. It should be noted that people who address protests may be held for investigations.
The new protocol against demonstrations plans to summon the four security forces that depend on the Ministry of Security — the Federal Police, the Gendarmerie, the Naval Prefecture and the Airport Security Police — to break up street protests that block streets and routes.
This repressive package is announced after the economic adjustment plan presented by the Ministry of Economy this Tuesday, which was criticized by the General Central of Workers (CGT) for presenting draconian neoliberal measures against the people while favoring the strata that have the most money.
The Government raised the value of the dollar from 400 to 800 pesos, promised not to renew contracts for public employees who have been in office for less than a year, and has announced increases in rates for basic services and public transport.
The representative of the CGT Héctor Daer expressed his “concern” at the Government's “lack of an economic plan” and the announcement of “disorderly and harmful adjustment measures” that “fall on the people”.
The CGT requested an emergency meeting with trade union organizations to evaluate the impact and of government measures and organize a request for the repeal of the neoliberal package of the Javier Milei government.
