At least 5 dead and 100 missing due to heavy flooding in the Himalayas

The landslide in the town of Daráli in India that devastated everything in its path, including dozens of people. At the same time, a river overflowed, which flooded the area, complicating rescue efforts.

The avalanche was triggered after a sudden downpour in the Himalayan mountainous region, causing the collapse of numerous buildings and sweeping away homes and businesses. Local and federal authorities are working against the clock to locate survivors under tons of debris and mud.

“The mud completely covered structures, reaching up to 15 meters deep in some sectors,” said Arpan Yaduvanshi, commander of the State Disaster Response Force.
