A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.1 shook the south and center of Peru's territory, causing injuries to dozens of citizens and severe damage to public and private infrastructure in the southern region.
According to the local media report, government authorities immediately activated emergency protocols to assist the affected population and assess the magnitude of the material losses.
The earthquake occurred in one of the areas with the highest seismic history in the South American nation, reviving fear among the inhabitants. Rescue and security teams began assistance deployments at the most critical points in the coastal province.
At least 27 people were injured during the magnitude 6.1 earthquake that was felt this Tuesday in the Ica region, in southern Peru, where various infrastructure damages have also been reported, Peruvian Defense Minister Amadeo Flores said.
