Ayacucho Library claimed Ángel Rama's role in promoting regional literature

The participants agreed that Ángel Rama's research and editorial work is still present at the Ayacucho Library.

The Ayacucho Library held a conservatory in Caracas to recognize the role of the Uruguayan essayist, critic, researcher and cultural manager Ángel Rama, on the occasion of the centenary of his intellectual birth.

The activity, carried out at the headquarters of Librería del Sur, allowed us to reflect on the validity of Rama's work and his editorial contribution, which consolidated him as one of the most influential figures in literary criticism in Latin America, according to a note from the Ministry for Culture.

During the meeting, the president of the Ayacucho Library, Luis Alberto Crespo, highlighted the plural and democratic nature promoted by Rama in the construction of the institution's catalog. “Rama did something that will go down in history: he proposed a participatory canon that allowed for plurality,” he said.

For his part, the editorial coordinator Jesús León highlighted the intellectual's work as a critic, teacher and editor, in addition to his socio-historical and political vision of literature. In addition, he noted that Rama incorporated historical texts and elements of orality to understand literature as a broader cultural expression.

The participants agreed that Ángel Rama's research and editorial work is still present in the Ayacucho Library, considered one of the most prestigious publishers in Latin America and the Caribbean.
