This Wednesday, Berlin-Brandenburg airport suspended operations due to a labor strike that left about 57,000 passengers unable to travel; the protest forced the cancellation of nearly 445 scheduled flights.
In this regard, the Ver.di union called for the strike in the middle of the second round of wage negotiations. The organization requires an increase of at least 6% or a minimum of 250 euros per month, in addition to an additional day of rest.
The workers consider the proposal submitted by the employers to be insufficient and the conflict escalated after the union's rejection of the business offer.
In context, the union leadership insists that current salaries do not cover the increase in the cost of living, so they insist on a reasonable and effective response.
The airport administration questioned the magnitude of the strike and warned of its impact on thousands of travelers. The parties will resume talks on March 25 with the objective of reaching an agreement to restore normal air operations.
