Bolivarian Government declared the cult of San Benito as Cultural Heritage of the state of Zulia

Through an Official Gazette, the Bolivarian Government declared the cult of San Benito de Palermo and his Chimbangueles as Cultural Heritage of the region, from the Sucre municipality, south of Lake Maracaibo.
According to information from Venezolana de Televisión, Decree No. 1,154, published in the Official Gazette No. 5,667, instructs state educational authorities and urges their national and municipal peers “to promote and disseminate the relevance of the cult of Saint Benedict of Palermo and the Chimbangueles in both state and national culture.”
The celebration was held as part of the commemoration of the 432nd anniversary of the municipality of Sucre, renowned for its rich tradition, history and deep-rooted customs, including devotion to the drum and to Saint Benedict of Palermo. The cultural evening was attended by Danzas Mamá Yaya, the Guarare Cultural Foundation and the Antanones de Bobures, who delighted the audience.
The news was received with enthusiasm by the people of Bobures, where this cultural tradition has lasted for generations and has united its inhabitants in the cult of the Black Saint. To the beat of the drums, they danced and expressed their gratitude for this distinction.
