Authorities evaluated the activation of a direct Rome-Caracas flight during a videoconference that brought together institutions from the air and tourism sector, in order to advance the policy of open skies and strengthen the country's connectivity, the Ministry of Popular Power for Tourism reported.
The session was attended by the Deputy Minister of National Tourism, Nadia Mignogna, representatives of ITA Airways, the Venezuelan ambassador to Italy, María Elena Uzzo, the Deputy Minister of Air Transport, Sergio Silvio Prato, the president of the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC), Edwing José Reyes, and the representative of Maiquetía Airport, Pedro Saavedra, who reviewed the operational viability of the proposal.
The initiative of the European airline, a member of the Lufthansa Group, would incorporate a new travel alternative for Italian-Venezuelan families and would expand the access of international visitors to domestic destinations such as Gran Sabana, Los Roques and Margarita, which would diversify the tourist flow.
The meeting also aimed to take advantage of the country's geographical position on the continent to attract investment, boost trade, boost hospitality and strengthen the economic activity of municipalities and tourism service providers.
