Bolivarian Government evaluated the Punta Brava Bridge to reactivate traffic to Morrocoy Park

A structural reactivation and rehabilitation plan will define the opening of the vehicle passage to Cayo Punta Brava, in the Morrocoy National Park, after a specialized technical inspection carried out on the Punta Brava Bridge, led by Hideki Miyamoto, a Japanese expert in structural engineering and risk management.

The information was provided on its website of the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism, in which it specified that the day included the participation of the National Park Institute (INPARQUES); the Ministry of Popular Power for Tourism; the Mayor's Office of the José Laurencio Silva Municipality, citizen security forces, the Bolivarian Navy (Coast Guard) and the GNB 133 Command.

The in situ diagnosis presented by the specialized team revealed critical fractures and breaks in the load beams aggravated by corrosion in the exposed reinforcements, as well as advanced deterioration in the support points.

On piles and foundations, the evaluation identified corrosion due to constant exposure to the marine environment; however, it was determined that damage to the bases is limited, outlining the use of prefabricated elements as a viable technical alternative after the corresponding cleaning.

To ensure stability and to proceed with the safe provision of traffic, the inter-institutional authorities agreed to the immediate execution of the temporary shoring in two critical sections of the structure.

In addition, the action plan contemplates the placement of reinforced concrete brackets on the supports to stabilize the affected beams.

The work team determined the start of major maintenance work on the piles, in parallel with the detailed evaluation of the foundations.

These joint actions reaffirm the commitment of State institutions to restore road infrastructure with high safety standards for the economic and tourist revival of the state of Falcón.
