The Forest Fire Department, Civil Protection (PC) and volunteers have been working since Wednesday night to control and extinguish a new fire registered in the Henri Pittier National Park.
“The coordinated intervention has succeeded in fighting fire, avoiding further damage to the ecosystem,” said the Minister of People's Power for Ecosocialism through a post on his Telegram channel.
He explained that, according to the authorities of PC de Aragua, the accident began around 3:00 p.m. in the Camburito and La Placera sector, Girardot municipality, Las Delicias parish.
He reported that so far it is estimated that the fire has affected approximately 7.2 hectares of land.
“This incident once again highlights the urgent need to become aware of the impact that human actions have on our environment, more than 95% of forest fires are caused by the human hand,” he emphasized.
In that regard, he added that these alarming data underline the importance of the conservation of flora, fauna and water resources. “Burns not only affect biodiversity, but they also have serious consequences for human health, including respiratory and cardiovascular diseases,” he said.
He added that recently scientists have revealed that forest fires release invisible gases that pollute the air in much larger quantities than had been estimated. “This pollution directly competes with emissions from vehicles, industries and heating in various regions of the planet, posing an additional challenge for public health and the environment,” he added.
“We once again commend the work that officials are doing to keep our reservoir safe. It is essential that each of us take responsibility for protecting natural spaces. Collaboration between emergency forces and the community is vital to mitigate these disasters and preserve the natural wealth that surrounds us,” he said.
He also called on the population to unite in the task of caring for and respecting the environment. “Prevention and respect for nature are actions that must be at the center of our priorities,” he said.
